now how about some reviews!
Duf Davis and the Book Club, End of Summer Blowout (Orange Entropy) CDS
His last album was a maelstrom of poorly-tuned guitar and Jad Fair poetry.
These four tracks are a bit of a departure from that. My Lawyer Can Kill Your
Lawyer comes closest by playing the riff from Smoke on the Water like a
drunken fool for several minutes too long over an annoying pinging drum
loop. It is quite compelling. Lawyers might be needed for Tension Headache
too, as its subtitle (and only lyric), Annie DiFranco Sucks, is sure to annoy at
least one person, if not with its content then with the irritating 2 chord throb.
It's Your Ego Man is best, though. Eschewing all but a big drum and acapella
verses it deflates the self-opinion of that chap, the big fish in the small pond,
that we all know and hate.---Splendid E-Zine
Mr. Davis immediately grabs you with his humorous twists and sacastic manner.Any song
with the chorus, Ani DiFranco sucks is going to be pretty funny and ear catching. But
underneath the snideness there is a shrewd entertainer lurking in the guise of an
experimentalist. Pay attention to this Orange Entropy label too, a gold mine of oddball
rock and weirdness from Jersey. Don Campau's Lair
Duf Davis & The Book Club(End of Summer Blowout E.P.) Duf Davis has balls, big ones! Warning, never play this CD to your
lesbian best friend, or even dare play this at a lesbian bar. You will not come out alive. All this I tell you because of one chorus in one
song that goes “Ani DiFranco sucks”. Every song on this EP is catchy and hillarious. Not so much as guitar driven as Shut Up and
Detune Your Guitar, this album focuses more on Davis’ whit more than his musical skills. As of this writing, I hear Duf Davis’ mock
Californian voice ringing, it’s your ego man. You’re friends will either wonder what kind of crack you’ve been smoking to find out why
the hell your listening to this garbage, or ask themselves why they don’t have the impeccable musical taste that you possess. (Jason
