now how about some reviews!
OE 008 (Untitled Compilation) A perfectly wickywacky retro hippie 60's LSD & marijuana-laced psychedelic sonic Pez drop of an
anthology CD. There's fifteen mellow, relaxed, stoned to the bone hippy tracks to savor herein. The Vegetable Pakoras watery atonal
instrumental "Ishi", Shawn's Friends From New Jersey's ear-bending, fuzztoneblastin' woozy blues "Last Day In Pittsburgh", the
smooth-chuggin' electronic coolness of Entrans' supremely spacey "3 Tones". Elevenland's beautifully lilting, meditative "Luna Moth",
Fiber's fabulously brassy, hard-thrashin "Sitting Here", the Great Glass Elevator's hypnotically droning "The Rain", the Bright Orange
Underground's seriously bassy oddball anthem "The Color of The Bright Orange Underground", and William's Wonder's exquisitely
anguished "Mantra" stand out as definite highlights. Smokey Retardo's delightfully impish and irreverant "I'll show you NASDAQ, If
You Show Me Yours" closes things on a properly nutty note. [Like, total groovesville, man - Joe Wawyrzniak JERSEY BEAT]
Orange Entropy Records 008 "Eclectic mix of artists... just to the left or right
of the mainstream" ...I received these two Orange Entropy Records Samplers not long ago, and dropped them right into the CD Player.
Orange Entropy is a CDR-based label which seems to deal mostly with indie lo-fi (low budget) type groups and artists. Several of the
tracks suffer from downright amateur-sounding recording techniques (it's not hard to imagine some of these guys crowded around a
boom box) but others pull off some interesting tunes with decent production. That said, it's really the music that matters, and some of
what Orange Entropy has to offer is
pretty darn cool. The standouts on 008 include: a track by indie rockers The Side Project; a very punk-ish tune by Corrupt Justin, the
electronic sounds of The People's Reublic of Yo Mama, retro pop/rock music by Elevenland, thrash/punk from Fiber, worldy
instrumental pop by The Great Glass Elevator and an interesting spoken-word piece over spacey instrumentals by Radio E.R.I.S. All in
all, the samplers by Orange Entropy Records offer a very eclectic mix of average to above-average artists who may be just to the left or
right of the mainstream. There are a few substandard tracks (that shall remain nameless) but overall these CDs are a real eye-opener for
those who think that the scene in New Jersey consists mainly of grunge cover bands. Definitely worth a listen! (Second Story)
